Melbourne Pig Save Rally 2017 Australia
March 18, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm UTC+11
FreeLate last year, the Victorian State Government released its 5-year Draft Action Plan with the title “Improving the Welfare of Animals in Victoria”. Within the plan, the government declared that we must protect animals, including those on farms, from cruelty.
How can the government release a statement so far removed from the current reality unless it intends changing that reality?
Elsewhere, the government has noted there are exemptions in favour of the livestock sector within the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (POCTA) Act. At the same time, it has claimed that “this does not permit cruelty to occur”.
How can that be?
If cruelty is not permitted, then the current exemptions to the POCTA Act must be removed as part of the final action plan.
Anything less will cause the government’s statements to be nothing more than political doublespeak.
Please stand with us on Saturday, 18th March, to tell the Victorian State Government that politial doublespeak, particularly when it occurs at the expense of those who are unable to stand up for themselves, is repugnant.
Until the POCTA exemptions are removed, the government must introduce evidence-based public relations and advertising, along with mandatory product labelling, to inform consumers of the reality behind animal products.
As more people learn of the horrors and change their consumption practices, they will influence others to do the same.
Every day that honest discussion is delayed, more animals will be born into lives of almost unimaginable cruelty.
HOW CAN THAT BE CONSIDERED ACCEPTABLE IN A SUPPOSEDLY CIVILISED SOCIETY?
Our rallies are peaceful events where we supply posters for you to hold on the steps of the GPO/H&M building. Kids, companion animals and new-comers are welcome.
Event organised by Melbourne Pig Save which aims to inform the community about the plight of pigs in our food production system, including legal and routine mutilation (usually without anaesthetic) and confinement.
