March 9, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm UTC+11

We are very fortunate to welcome Jo-Anne McArthur as a guest speaker for our first official UMAPS talk of the year!

Jo-Anne is an award-winning photographer, author, and educator based in Toronto, Canada. Through her long-term body of work, We Animals, she has been documenting our complex relationship with animals around the globe for fifteen years. Her first book, We Animals, was published in 2014.

Jo-Anne is also the subject of the critically acclaimed 2013 documentary The Ghosts in Our Machine, in which she documents the plight of abused and exploited animals, advocating for their rights as sentient beings.

Her latest endeavour, The Unbound Project, is a photographic project that celebrates female leaders at the forefront of animal advocacy, both contemporary and historical. Her captivating images have also been used by more than 100 organisations, publishers and academics to advocate for animals. She speaks regularly at schools and universities around the world on the subjects of photography, animals, social change and empathy through her We Animals Humane Education Program.

Her forthcoming book, Captive, will be published in spring 2017.
